old rear end bearings

Postby tenaja » Sat Apr 14, 2007 7:30 am

Tony, my old 1999 model rear end has stub axle bearings marked UC207-22. The sources I've found locally have that as a 72mm spherical OD bearing (with a curved surface on the OD)... is that spherical OD bearing pressed into the rear uprights? If so, what was the reason for not using a regular cylindrical bearing? Can I press regular bearings in there?

Thanks!

The bearings used in the Hypersprint uprights are not a spherical OD, it has a plain OD like a normal bearing.
The reason for using a UC type bearing is that it has the centre grub screws to lock the centre section of the bearing to the spline shaft.
Because the spline shaft is a little undersize the bearing needs to be locked to the shaft.
