Which engine for Taipan

Postby Matt527 » Mon May 02, 2011 12:53 am

Just need some help deciding what engine to mount on my taipan. The engines I have are a 14hp Vanguard Vtwin electric start, a Honda 13hp pull start engine, and a Honda Rebel 250 twin motorcycle engine 5 speed that is about 16hp. Just wondering which engine would be best for trail/dunes. I don't have a torque converter so would have to buy one if the motorcycle engines didn't go.

Also if the 250 rebel motor is whats used....I would like to get some more bottom end torque for climbing hills, so would my best bet be to fab up a jackshaft? And what size teeth? Tires will be 22" and the motor drive sprocket is 14 tooth.

Thanks for your help.

Go for the bike engine.
More rpm = more speed.

You don't need a layshaft unless you have issues getting the chain to drive directly to the rear axle.
A 14 to 50 ratio would be idea combined with 22" tyres.
Plenty of low end torque.

I started a creative new idea, it's because you come across.
