Andre's Barracuda build

Postby Abouwer123 » Thu May 14, 2015 8:31 pm

Hey guys so Im going to start building a Baracuda. I bought a cams spec chassis for really cheap ($500) haha, it' has been made out of 1,3/8 CDS main bottom frame, and then the rest is 1, 1/2 CDs, all tig and mig welded.
I also got a race rear housing and 312mm wilwood rotors front and rear, 4 piston rear, and 2 piston front calipers, 6 stud hubs all round, and rear uprights already welded with bearings etc. also a cobra race seat, and a barina power steering unit,
I've machined all of the rear suspension adjuster nuts and stuff ready to make some swing arms, hopefully this wkd,
I only get the weekend (sometimes not) to work on it, so it may be a slowish project but hopefully not :)

Hahaha  nah it's not even close! Lack of time and money is the problem; have a few bucks saved; currently deciding what parts are most important to get first etc.

Yeah hey!
Um looking towards a gsxr 1000,
But will take what ever is the best deal
As long as it's over 150 horses ;)

I'm just doing an order off edge atm, getting drive shafts, pedal boxes and pedals unwelded, front uprights unwelded, chassis shock mounts unwelded, 2 master cylinders,
And I've also bought some rose joins, from an eBay shop, these ones are chromoly to chromoly, not the Teflon lined ones, and we're 20 each. Which I thought was pretty cheap
Also had my boss order me some 20 nb CDS tube so that I can make some swing arms,
( I work as an apprentice fitter machinist) at a local engineering shop in port Macquarie.

Got my rose joints today,
Edge order has been put through and my cds has arrived, so I'm hoping to make a start on the swing arms this wknd,
Although I do have to work most of Saturday, so we will see :/

Are you going to fit seals to those rod ends as steel on steel will wear pretty quickly with all the dust.

I didn't even think of that tony, what sort of seals should I be looking at, are there rose joint specific ones ?
Thanks

"Seals it"
That is the brand.
But honestly you would have been better off with Nylon or Teflon lined rod ends.
And for a CAMS buggy with that extra weight go for a Busa or ZX14 engine.
A GSXR1000 will struggle as most of the 1000cc breed lack low end torque to pull the weight.

Okay thanks tony,
Well when these ones flog out, I'll get some Teflon ones I guess? But wouldn't dust and stuff flog Teflon out quicker than chromoly steel?

Also I picked up a 06 Cbr 1100xx blackbird today ( well the engine and everything required) with 12668 kms for 1400
So I'm hoping that should be enough power ( for now anyway)
What do you think, they have a bit more bottom end torque compared to the super sports, so should be good,

But of an update too, got my edge order so hopefully tomorrow I will have the front uprights and pedal boxes welded up,
And then also make a start on suspension jigs

Also with a hydraulic hand clutch am I able to tilt the master vertically and still be able to use it? Along as the clutch line going into the master won't suck air in it shouldn't be a problem right?
Cheers

Got a little bit done today,
Pedal boxes and pedals, all welded up,
Front uprights welded, and shock mounts all done,
Didn't get round to cleaning all the spatter up though,
