He finished third. A late race nine car pileup, which caused a red flag, delayed the finish. Reading the Nascar web site, Ambrose said he could have passed Tony Stewart for second, but didn't want to risk taking out one of the top guys fighting for the title....

Again, Congrats Marcus, a great effort. He could have had two or three wins prior to this weekend, with just a little bit of luck. Marcus is a very good, talented driver. The reason he has not set the world alight amongst those good ole boys is not because of his ability (though oval racing is different skill that does take time to learn), it's the team he drives for. Though previously a champion team (in the 50's, 60's & 70's), Woods Brothers racing in this day and age, is the equivalent to a Britek or Brad Jones operation. Not exactly a front running team.

Init funny, when he was racing in Australia, driving for the dark side, I didn't like him (in fact I don't think he was that popular even with most Ford supporters). Now he's an Aussie racing overseas (but still driving for the dark side) he's alright.....

Actually, Nascar in this day and age means Ford is not the dark side, that title definitely belongs to those Jap interlopers, Toyota! Just as they will be if they ever enter the V8 Supercar championship!

Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!

Cheers,
Rod.

Well it's about time i moved up the V8 Ladder, been in last place for too long now. Look out biggans i'm making a late run for the lead.

Ambrose is on fire, he is driving really well, with 2nd rate equipment. Him winning in the 59 Car & 3rd in the 21 Car, is like winning with Paul Cruickshank Racing. 2009 is looking really sweet for him!

After another loo...oong delay, the V8s are back on this weekend!
The first of the enduros, the L&H 500 is the event, Phillip Island is the venue.

Not only is the venue different, the format is slightly changed as well. A 120km race on Saturday (worth 100 pts), followed by the 500km race on Sunday, worth 200 points. :?

Your teams for the weekend are;

Trojan - HRT, cars 1 & 2.
Ed, BJR - cars 12 & 14.
Stevo - GRM, cars 33 & 34.
Young Gun - FPT, cars 021 & 111.
Luke - PMM, cars 39 & 67.
Dan - HPT, cars 50 & 55.
Reg - FPR, cars 5 & 6.
Biggans - LPE, cars 7 & 11.
Greg - TAS, cars 3 & 51.
Mick - SBR, cars 4 & 9.
d'Rat - BRI, cars 25 & 26.
Big Boyz Toyz - DJR, cars 17 & 18.
Rod - T8R, cars 88 & 888.
Foggy - HSV, cars 15 & 16.

Don't forget, two drivers per car.....

Good Luck all.

Rod.

DAMN!!! What a mathematical nightmare sorting out this round.

Saturdays "two" short races meant each car/team scored only half points for each race, ie 50 pts for a win instead of 100. As each car raced twice, with different drivers each time, drivers could only score maximum 50 points for Saturdays races, but the "car" & team could score up to 100 points.... Then for Sundays race, both drivers in each car would score the maximum 200 points available, but the car & team would only score 200, :? not the combined 400...... you all still with me??? Therefore each driver could score only a max of 250 points for the weekend, but the team/car could score the full 300!.....Even though 400 drivers points were awarded for the first place car....... :?

Despite all that, here are the sweepstake results for round 9...

1st, Trojan - HRT. Car 1, 15th, 7th & 1st = 252 pts. Car 2, 27th, 10 & 14th = 118 pts = 370 pts total and $50:00 won.

2nd, Mick - SBR. Car 4, 13th, 3rd & 6th = 201 pts. Car 9, 16th, 5th & 10th = 160 pts = 361 pts total and $30:00 won.

3rd, Rod - T8R. Car 888, 11th, 1st & 2nd = 258 pts. Car 88, 26th, 14th & 17th = 102 pts = 360 pts total & $20:00 won.

4th, Big Boyz Toyz - DJR. Car 18, 18th, 2nd & 3rd = 235 pts. Car 17, 2nd, 18th & 22nd = 115 pts = 350 pts total.
5th, Stevo - GRM. Car 33, 5th, 21st & 5th = 199 pts. Car 34, 9th, 24th & 12th = 131 pts + 330 pts total.
6th, Biggans - LPE. Car 11, 21st, 11th & 8th = 158 pts. Car 7, 19th, 16th & 13th = 123 pts = 281 pts total.
7th, Reg - FPR. Car 6, 12th, 9th & 4th = 211 pts. Car 5, DNF, 19th & 24th = 60 pts = 271 pts total.
8th, Luke - PMM. Car 39, 14th, 4th & 9th = 173 pts. Car 67, 25th, 15th & 19th = 94 pts = 267 pts total.
9th, d'Rat - BRI. Car 25, 3rd, 22nd & 11th = 152 pts. Car 26, 22nd, 8th & 21st = 99pts = 251 pts total.
10th, YoungGun - FPT. Car 111, 4th, 23rd & 16th = 128 pts, Car 777, 23rd, 13th & DNF = 102 pts = 230 pts total. N.B. Regular FPT car #021, did not run at all at Phillip Island, so the extra car #777 was substituted. Car was driven by regular driver Micheal Patrizi and Grant Denyer.
11th, Foggy - HSV. Car 15, 1st, 17th & 7th, 196 pts. Car 16, 20th, 28th & DNF = 22 pts = 218 pts total.
12th, Ed - BJR. Car 14, 7th, 26th & 15th = 121 pts. Car 12, 6th, 20th & DNF = 49 pts = 170 pts total.
13th, Greg - TAS. Car 51, 24th, 12th & 20th = 94 pts. Car 3, 17th, 6th & DNF = 52 pts = 146 pts total.
14th, Dan - HPT. Car 50, 10th, 25th & 23rd = 84 pts. Car 55, 8th, 27th & DNF = 38 pts = 122 pts total.

Thanks guys, pointscore update and race comments to follow.
Cheers,
Rod.

Now about the race.

The L&H 500. Thats 500kays, not 620kays, Whats with the two extra sprints on Saturday! Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for innovation and changes to improve the show, but surely there's something wrong when the guys who win the 500 km race on Sunday, come away from the weekend with less points than the guy who came second in the 500 km race, Adelaide has a similar points cockup due to the winner of the Sunday race being declared the winner, despite where they finished in Saturdays race.

Surely its not too much to ask that the winner of the event, is the guy that scores the most points on the weekend, or that the title winner, takes home the most points from the round....

What ever happened to the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid). Trying to be too fancy just complicates things unnecessarily.

If we need more shorter races, lets follow the dirt track speedway principle. Have six to eight sprint races or heats, that only involve 10 or 12 cars in each heat. And each car races two or three times within those six or eight heats, to accumulate points towards establishing there starting position for the championship pointscoring main race....

Steve Owen. I've said it before, I'll say it again. Why doesn't this guy have a full time main game drive? He's got to be the most under rated driver in the country. First drive in the main game this year (in the #17 DJR Falcon), he outqualifies both established DJR drivers and finishes a fighting second place in his sprint race....

Owen should have got the Autobarn money at HSVDT instead of the poor little rich boy Dumbrell. And Rod Nash's Commodore has not had anywhere near the results this year with D'Alberto that he had last year with Owen.

Or how about, Steve Owen teaming with Will Davison in the #18 DJR Falcon at Bathurst. Two genuinely fast guys in the one car and the other two poor little rich daddies boys in the #17 car....

The "international" drivers didn't exactly bathe themselves in glory either did they? Admittedly, very tricky conditions and those cars are notoriously difficult to come to terms with. The Triple 8 pairing fell way short of the effort by last years international steerers. And frankly, I was never expecting too much from Neal and Said...

Anyway, thats enough from me, anybody else have any thoughts or opinions?

Cheers, Rod.

Oh, by the way, GO GT, you Good Thing!!! :D 8)

The Australian Public!
Great racing!!
GT and Skafe won the 500 on Sunday with Lowndes and Whincup coming second because Whincup made a little mistake under pressure(very unusual!), went wide and GT slide under him then powered home to win by about 1.5 seconds. :(
