New Sidewinder.

Postby customwinder » Thu Jun 18, 2015 11:51 pm

Hi guys. Saturday is testing day for my sidewinder. She's a little different to the plans and hope it all goes sweet. Had the chassis built for quite some time but decided it needed finishing. Taken about three months to assemble after work and on weekends. All done in the back yard. She's running an nx650 motor with custom oil cans. Big fuel tank with electric fuel pump and surge tank. The chassis is all pipe and front and rear swingarms are pipe too. Bought the front shocks from the guys at edge products. Rear shock is unknown but should do the job. Digital oil temp and volt guages in an ally dash will be fitted along with a tacho. Gps speedo still to come. Will post pictures when I figure that out.

Thanks mate. Tried to do something different. Got the right front shocks in now and they hold the front end up really well. Looking forward to tomorrow. :P

:P Afternoon fellas. The test day was great. Had trouble with the neutral cutout switch so earthed it out and had no problems after that. I've got a 44 tooth rear sprocket so pickup wasn't real quick but she was flying in third gear. Went to a mates place with some room to drive and he pulled out his winder as well. His has a Husky 660 installed and it hauls. Thanks for checking out my winder I couldn't be happier with how today went.

Hey fellas took her out for the second time today. Fitted a 48 tooth rear sprocket and she takes off a bit quicker now. Everything was going great until a left turn slide got ugly. She rolled over. Had the boys on the scene real quick and extracted me from the beast. Flipped ot back up the right way and all was good. No damage to her . Can't say the same for me though. Got knocked around a bit. Hurt my shoulder and leg a bit. Good thing I had my helmet on. She started up no worries and off we went. Got it all on action cam. I'll have to get it up on YouTube and put up the link. Might take it easy for a bit. Got some panels on her this morning before todays run. Looks a bit better now.

Curious to see that! Glad you are (sort of) ok too...

Did it bite in during the slide? With the motor on that side does it handle differently in turns? Hope you don't find any nasties on the buggy when you inspect it closely

Hey Mongrel. Thanks mate. Got an RDO today and am getting an X ray today. Nothing a cup of harden the f#@$ up won't fix. Had a good look at her yesterday and all seems to be okay on the machine. I think all the extra bracing helped a fair bit. The only thing that broke was the action cam mount up the front. Had two going. One of the boys at work does video editing so we'll get that done during the week . Hopefully won't get to show you guys a wicked X ray :
I'll put up the link when the video is ready. Can't wait for the next ride.

Hey guys time for an update. Recovered from the roll over alright. X rays showed a cracked and chipped collarbone and bruising in my back and legs. Had to take it easy for a few weeks. The sidewinder is fine . Gave me a chance to gp right over it and all is good. Got a digital tacho in her now works fine. I'm almost finished building a trailer for her now. Should be finished in a week or two. Then I can get back to building the Trax2 for the mrs. Got the rear axle and brake kit from the boys at Edge and should have that finished in a month or two. Few bits are different to the plans. Made some pedals the same as the winder and made the whole chassis out of pipe. Should look good when finished.
Still have to put some footage on you tube of the winder in action.
