Ben's Piranha build.

Ben's Piranha build.

Postby keepthedirtflying » Sun Mar 18, 2012 10:19 pm

Hi guys
My first buggy was the trax II with at yamaha yz465cc
Now I have decided to a proper buggy
I have decided on a piranha buggy,
I kept an eye on ebay for a while for a cheap one but no luck, found a sidewinder buggy frame unfinished project so I got that as I though that would be a good start,
I have fitted a double a-arm rear end with cc upgrade kit,
I decided to upgrade to the barracuda front end for much better handling, and have taken the side off and bent up some nerf bars,
Recently I have purchased 26" wheels for it from USA
I have just purchased a donor bike Honda CBR954 2003 with under 30000 kms on the clock!
I am hoping there are some guys out there like Bluezone, Sean, Foggy who are able to help when I am not sure,
Am hoping to get some fox 14" travel coilovers from the USA for front and rear.
I am currenly waiting on some parts from the edge,
Will be posting some photos up soon.
I just though while I am waiting on some part I might a well start a topic for my build like everyone else should!!! :D
Cheers guys!!

Hello Chopper.

Thanks for your comment.

Yes that is the standard cuda front end.

I am using piranha frame with the front end modified to have the cuda swing arms.

Hey I am up to getting some shocks now.

What do you reckon? Fox airs or some coilovers? I have a budget. For $1000 I can get all 4 fox airs including freight.
Or do you think i should wait a bit and get some coilovers? I have taken no short cuts with this buggy and won't be interested in taking a short cut on suspension and having the buggy handling like crap.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and from others who have had experience.

Cheers.

you are doing an amazing job, i was thinking about doing the cuda front also, still might be an option.
it doesnt look like you need too much help either bud, lol

as for the shocks, maybe someone with a bit more shock knowledge could jump in and give you some advice, i really arent up to speed on all the fancy stuff, lots of guys seem to run the fox,s without too many dramas and with a budget it sounds like they are reasonably priced to do the job

Hey. Does anyone think my front cuda swing arms are too low?? Should they be up a little?

Looking forward to hearing other members thoughts

Yeh too me it looks a little to low. As for the shocks, if you could afford it i would wait a little and get the Fox coil-overs i think that they will perform better and they will be easier to fine tune also compaired too Fox AIRS. Also in my eyes they look better also 8)

Thanks

Thanks guys. I appreciate your comments and help.
When i did the front end I found that the front wheels are down by 160mm pass the rear wheels....maybe too much....but i like the cuda look!
As for Fox coilovers. I would like to wait a bit but when the build is nearly finish I don't know if i have the patient to wait!!
Would there be cheaper shocks but still are good???
I have looked at race runner shocks. Sean has used them on his barracuda they seem to handle well looking at his video on utube.

Looking forward to hear other members thoughts...

Cheers for now.
