From what ive been told the bushes in the double a arm rear will wear out to fast and the bearing wont handle it with a 1000cc thats why im going gsxr 750

I would put a little extra room just to make things easier, ihave a V-Twin and i added some room but it was still not enough had to bend the firewall.

Thanks

Hey guys, thanks for the replies...

Yeah I went and visited a bloke yesterday who is running a GSX1000R in a piranha with double a arm uni rear end, is still in one piece after 18 months, but he has shown me a few problem areas so am gonna make some mods as I build top try and prevent that, for starters the 4 bolts that hold on the sprocket he has been having trouble with them stretching and also says it is very hard to get an allen key in behind to tight them up so yeah I am gonna do mine like the Barracuda to get around this, am also gonna do the center shaft upgrade that I think chooper or one of the blokes has done, also gonna do some modding to rear roll cage, anyway ordered a couple of things from edge yesterday, should be here tomorrow...

Also has Matt(Boily) come around yesterday and he is helping me to make some changes and he is gonna CAD up how my front end will work with how my front end is...

Should hopefully have some progress pics maybe on monday arvo ;)

Ok peoples made some recent progress...

Cut all the roll bars off the rear, removed the side rails that attach the rear housing to the chassis, extended them back 70mm to make it line up with the top hip rail which also in turn gives me 70mm more room in engine which ain't a bad thing I think... Next I started redesigning the rear roll bar section... I decided to slightly change the shape of the rear end to accommodate for the radiator and for a larger fuel cell... Also bought a seat, one shock and the front stub axles from the edge so that I can sit in the buggies to check room and the shock so I can setup the suspension... Anyway here are some pics ;)

Good idea to raise the rear roll bars higher to a tighter angle. I couldnt fit my honda civic rad in t all so thats what i had to do.

Gives you loads more room for everything

I second robs comment.

The Piranha doesn't have enough room for bigger radiators such as the civic rad. Three mods that i personally think every Piranha maker should do is extend the from by at least 150mm, extend the engine bay if you find you'll run a bigger engine, and modify the rear roll bars for radiator room.

Nice work on the buggy though mate! Makes me want to re do my whole frame! One thing though.... your front end doesn't look right? Still doesn't look as long as it should?

Yeah you would be right dude front end is still 70mm too short matt(boily) drew it up on solidoworks and its only out 2 degrees so we are gonna draw up the double a arm front suspension mounts for laser cutting and slightly modify to compensate... also gonna run outboard shocks which was always the plan anyway...

Yep i agree with mclovin done all those mods :D

Looking very nice work cant wait to see the front come together :)

I think its a good idea to run outboard fronts as well, i think it will be easier to set up in the first place and better handling. Not so much leverage on the front shock!

Well bit more progress today and in case you guys haven't already worked out, I am a bit of a photo freak, so I know I enjoy looking at other peoples photos and can never get enough and just hope I aren't overloading you all....

Anyway almost got the first frame to the point where I can really do any more to the frame itself, tacked in the cross on the rear roll bar hoop, I was able to measure up a GSXR1000 and it will fit in easy with the cross in, also welded in the reinforcements for the side of the buggy and all welded in a piece of tube that the harness will either mount to or go over and mount further back on the frame... So yeah just a couple more things to do on this one and then on to the other frame to get up to the same point as this one, can't wait... Just wish I had more time, anyway here are some pics ;)

Oh yeah and check out the awesome notches this notcher does, everything fits like a glove well most of the time provided I don't cut things slightly short or get the wrong angle on my bevel :( hehehe

Bit of a question...

with my rear roll bar hoop setup like this...

Image

Do I still need to put a bar between the top hip rails to maintain the design integrity ??
