Take the sparkplug out and just hold it and kick her over, you will know which one is weak when you don't swear quite so loud.

The voltage output from the high tensile side of a coil is going to be in the tens of thousands of volts mate. It's hard to know exactly what you should be looking for, because between different model engines it could be between 10,000 to 80,000 or even higher. A workshop manual for your motor should tell you what you need to know, how to check for it, and what tools to use when doing so.
