No start no spark

Need a spark. All those tedious electrics, lights, tacho, wiring harness, etc

No start no spark

Postby Mclovin » Wed Sep 19, 2012 5:10 pm

It's got to the stage in my build where i can fire up my engine (1994 ZZR600E) in the frame. I have already extended the wiring loom to fit the buggy. When this was undertaken i cut one wire, soldered and joined it and this was used for every wire, so i'm 99% sure everything is connected correctly. When this engine was in the bike it ran perfectly fine. But today i have gone to start it, fuel pumps, dash lights up everything works but the started motor wont turn over and i get no spark.

Everything seems to be earthed properly, the battery is brand new and charged, everything is connected into its proper place, engine is in neutral and when i connect the battery directly to the started motor it turns over fine.

Can anyone help me out here? It's doing my head in!

Side stand switch has been tried both pressed and not pressed but still nothing, not that this affects anything anyway as the bike is in neutral. Bike doesn't have either a clutch switch OR tip over sensor either and it's an early model.

ALL fuses are fine also.

If your fuel pump has a level sensor it could be telling the system you have no fuel therefore not turn over the motor. Mine had that and i ended up bypassing the fuel solenoid and running it from a switch on the dash.

Check all your solenoids are working. You could be missing something that is not activating one of the solenoids. Have you got a wiring diagram? If so you can check which ones are required for ignition and could bypass them to check if they are faulty or power is not being received.

Just did a quick check on google and found that a wiring diagram that could be similar with a clutch switch that could be causing problems.

God Im a dickhead..

Had a tiny play this morning, looked at the wiring diagram and back at the loom and thought hang on... Maybe that isn't a brake light switch. Turns out it was the clutch switch.

Now it runs! ;)

Thanks for the help guys. Im sure ill be back with more engine related issues. Haha
