Centrifugal clutch

Postby Dodge » Sat Feb 20, 2010 11:09 pm

G'day all,

Just about finished rebuilding a raven.

I took the original centrifugal clutch off the 3.5hp B&S motor and fitted it to the new 5.5 B&S motor.

Started it up to test everything out (wheels up off the ground) and at lowest possible idle the clutch is still spinning the drive wheel (I eased the brake on but sounds like the motor wants to stall if I brake any harder).

Is this clutch not working correctly, is there a way to adjust the clutch, or do I need something more heavy duty for the larger engine???

Cheers

Try lowering the idle speed of the engine.
The same clutch will work on the 5.5.

Thanks Tony - I've been trying to research possible causes and it maybe that the bushing requires lubrication (some c clutch/go kart sites recommend this lubrication). This clutch has been sitting around on the old motor for a number of years with no use so I guess I'll give it a try????????

If you look in the last few pages of the Raven plans there is a section on clutch lubrication.

How tight is your belt? Centre-centre distance of drive and driven clutches correct dimensions?
Do you have enough deflection at the middle?
Parallelism of clutches correct?
Many factors to look at,any pics?...Baz
