Trax 2 gear ratio

Postby daaboots » Fri Nov 13, 2009 6:15 am

Hi

Just wondering what gear ratios other people were running with their Trax 2 if using the Tav2? My Tav2 has a 10 tooth on the secondary clutch, and I bought a 54 tooth for the axle. I have 25" balloon tires. I'm using a 8hp Tecumseh motor. Should I get a 60 or 70 tooth? I only want my max speed to be around 60 KM/H.

Thanks for the help.

Your tyres are way too big.
The tall gearing will wear out belts much faster.
We currently do not exceed a 20" tyre for the Trax II.
This gives a lower centre of gravity for better cornering speed, easier to break traction & spin the wheels so you can slide through a corner.
And low enough gearing for good acceleration & hill climbing capability.
With a 20 or 22" tyre we run a sprocket ratio of 6.83: 1, which is 12 to 82 teeth.

You really need to go to smaller tyres before you do anything else as 25" are just not right.

With your 1/2" pitch chain you would need 10 to 68 tooth.

Thanks for the info. I'm kinda stuck with the 25" tires for now, and the only other gear size I can get at my hardware store is a 60 tooth. I'll have to live with this for now.
